A significant but shallow inlet on the north coast of Sutherland, the Kyle of Durness opens between The Parph and Faraid Head and extends south for 5 miles (8 km). Balnakeil Bay forms the eastern side of its entrance. Keoldale its only settlement, lying on its eastern shore and the starting point for a passenger ferry which crosses the loch to connect to an isolated section of road which extends to Cape Wrath.
