Situated on a hill top 6 miles (10 km) to the northeast of Ayr, South Ayrshire, the Barnweil Monument marks the spot where William Wallace (1274 - 1305) commanded a battle against the English. He trapped the English Army in Ayr and allegedly set all the barns in the surrounding area alight, encircling the enemy.
