Menzieshill

A western suburb of Dundee, Menzieshill began as an isolated farm on the ridge extending west from Balgay Hill 2½ miles (4 km) west northwest of the city centre. Dominated by the city's largest public housing scheme, including five fifteen-storey tower blocks, the district was developed 1960-65 to provide 3,459 new homes for people cleared from the city centre. The 'multis', named Balgay Court, Glamis Court, Gowrie Court, Hillside Court and Ninewells Court, each contained 84 flats but were dismantled in 2010-11, without using explosives because of their proximity to Ninewells Hospital. The sizeable Menzieshill High School was established in 1968 but closed in 2016. Hillside Primary, lying to the east, and Gowriehill Primary, to the west, both closed in 2017, with pupils transferred to the new Tayview Primary on Dickson Avenue. St. Ninian's RC Primary School remains on Dochart Terrace.
