An extensive wind farm within the Forest of Ae in Dumfries and Galloway, 8 miles (13 km) east of Thornhill and a similar distance southwest of Moffat. Opened in July 2014 by Fergus Ewing (b. 1957), Minister for Business, Energy and Tourism, the farm cost £160 million and extends over 7.7 sq. miles (20 sq km). It was developed by Scottish Power Renewables in conjunction with Forestry and Land Scotland and comprises 68 Gamesa G90/2000 turbines, each with an output of 2 MW, giving a total generation capacity of 136 MW. The diameter of each blade is 90m (295 feet).
The construction created 7 miles / 11 km of new publicly-accessible tracks and paths, complimenting those already within the forest, together with a 2½-mile / 4-km mountain bike trail.
Proposals have been submitted for a southern extension.
