Comiston House, a mansion in the E of Colinton parish, Edinburghshire, near the Braid Hills, 3½ miles S by W of Edinburgh. Built in 1815, it is the seat of Sir John Forrest, second Bart. since 1838 (b. 1817; suc. 1860), who owns 500 acres in the shire, valued at £1290 per annum. Comiston Springs here began so early as 1681 to contribute water supply to Edinburgh.
