Child actor. Born in Monymusk (Aberdeenshire). Blonde-haired Whiteley starred in several well-received British films during the 1950s, including The Kidnappers (1953), with Duncan MacRae, Moonfleet (1955), with Stewart Grainger, Hunter (1952) and The Spanish Gardener (1956) both with Dirk Bogarde. He was awarded a Special Oscar by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1954 for his performance in The Kidnappers.
