Rugby internationalist. Born in Glasgow, the son of John Beattie (b.1957), Beattie was educated at Jordanhill School and the Glasgow Academy. He studied business and management at the University of Glasgow while an established rugby player with Glasgow Warriors and was selected for Scotland at the age of 20 in 2006. He went on to play 38 times for his country but also enjoyed a successful professional rugby career with clubs in France.
