Ruth Wishart


1945 -

Journalist and broadcaster. Born in Glasgow, Wishart was educated at Eastwood Senior Secondary School and completed an Open University degree in later life (2008). She became known as a respected journalist who has written for The Herald, the Scotsman and the Guardian amongst others and held senior editorial positions at the Sunday Mail, Scotsman and Sunday Standard. She has won awards for her journalism, writing on Scottish and British politics, and social issues. Wishart has also been a regular presenter on BBC Radio Scotland and Radio 4, and has appeared regularly on television.

Having served as a Trustee of the National Galleries of Scotland, as Chair of the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow and a Governor of the Glasgow School of Art, Wishart was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Open University in 2017 to recognition of her contribution.

She now lives Kilcreggan (Argyll).
