Laura Muir


1993 -

Athlete. Born in Inverness and raised in Milnathort, Muir was educated at Kinross High School and then studied veterinary medicine at the University of Glasgow. She gained a gold medals in the 1500m and 3000m at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade (2017), two golds for the same distances in the European Indoor Championships held in Glasgow (2019) and a further gold for the 1500m in the same championships in Istanbul (2023). She gained a silver medal and British record in the 1500m at the Tokyo Olympics of 2021and a broze medal at the World Athletics Chamionships in Oregon (2022).

Muir runs for the notable Hawkhill Harriers Club in Dundee. She was named Scottish Sportswoman of the Year (2020) and awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Glasgow in 2023. In 2022, Muir Way in Milnathort was named in her honour.
