David Hamilton 1768 - 1843 David Hamilton, Architect©2022 Gazetteer for Scotland Architect. Born in Glasgow, Hamilton trained as a stone mason before deciding to become an architect. He was greatly influenced by the brothers Robert and James Adam. Hamilton's most notable works include Airth Castle (Falkirk), Lennox Castle (near Lennoxtown) and additions to the now demolished Hamilton Palace. In Glasgow he was responsible for a significant number of buildings, including Hutchieson's Hospital (1805), the Nelson Monument of Glasgow Green (1806) and the new Royal Exchange (1829).Some of his drawings can been seen in the Hunterian Museum.
