A non-denominational local authority secondary school on Dunmuir Road in Castle Douglas (Dumfries and Galloway), Castle Douglas High School comprises a three-storey construction with a black glass facade highlighted in red, with a single-storey buff-coloured entrance block added to the front. It was built by Stewartry County Council in 1958.
The school roll is just short of 500 pupils and there is a staff of 80 (2020). Pupils are allocated to one of three geographcally-themed houses; Kelton, Solway and Threave. Subjects taught include: Art and Design, Business Studies and IT, English, French, German, Geography, History, Home Economics, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Religious Moral and Philosophical Studies, Science and Technical subjects.
The school has a considerable catchment area, extending from Laurieston in the north, to Lochfoot in the east, Gelston in the west and Buittle to the
south; drawing pupils from Castle Douglas, Crossmichael, Gelston, Hardgate, Lochrutton, and Springholm Primary Schools. Castle Douglas also takes sixteen-year-olds from Dalry School who wish to continue in education after their fourth year.
