Glendevon Parish Church

Glendevon Parish Church is a picturesque little white-harled rectangular building remotely-located between the River Devon and A823 road, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) southeast of Glendevon Castle. A church is first recorded here in the 13th C. Now B-listed, the present structure dates from the 18th-century or earlier, although its date marker relates to a reconstruction in 1803, and the building has subsequently been extended. The bird cage bellcote above the western gable is of particular interest and thought to date from the 17th C., although the bell was cast in 1845 by MacFarlane and Co. of St. John's Foundry in Perth. The fine west window is a tripartite work in stained glass by Alf Webster (1883 - 1915) featuring Jesus, The Good Shepherd. It was commissioned by Duncan Forbes of the nearby Glenhead Farm in 1913, who asked for a view of his farm to be included. A smaller stained glass window is dedicated to the memory of Rev. Alexander Taylor (1872 - 1949). There are some interesting monuments in the surrounding kirkyard.
