Olympic cyclist. Born in Paisley, where he was educated at Gleniffer High School, Carlin began cycling to help him recover from breaking both of his ankles while playing football as a child. He joined the Glasgow Riders at Bellahouston Park and has gone on win medals in the sprint, team sprint and keirin at European and World Championships, together with a silver medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (2018) and bronze and silver medals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (2022). He also won a bronze in the sprint and a silver medal in the team sprint at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games (held in 2021).
