Just a note, Dempster didn't actually make his 'Grand Tour' with Adam Fergusson, as his father died just as he crossed the channel. Dempster then had to sell most of his estates at Dunnichen [including Letham Grange] to pay the fines incurred in becoming an MP. Then he drained Loch Dunnichen etc.
Dempster in later life went to post-revolutionary France on Govt business.
Dempster retired to St Andrews, where Adam Fergusson had become the Burgh Provost.
