A small farm in Deeside, Hirnley (also Hirnlay, and recorded on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map as Hernley) is located 2½ miles (4 km) northeast of Aboyne in Aberdeenshire. It lies on the lower slopes of Little Hill. The adventurer and entrepreneur Peter Williamson, who became known as Indian Peter, was born here in 1730.
