A settlement in Easter Ross, Fearn lies 2 miles (3 km) northwest of Balintore and 8 miles (13 km) northeast of Invergordon. Fearn Abbey, rebuilt in 1771, was originally erected here c.1238 by the Earl of Ross. Its roof collapsed in 1742 killing about 50 worshippers. Nearby is the settlement of Hill of Fearn. Both villages comprise single-storey cottages with clay and boulder walls. To the south was the former Fearn Airfield, built during the Second World War as HMS Owl, a Fleet Air Arm training base, but now largely restored to agricultural use.
