Daviot Parish Church

A small settlement with a church and school in Strath Nairn, Highland Council Area, Daviot lies near the A9 road and the River Nairn, 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Inverness. An ancient hill-fort here was replaced by a 15th-century keep that was in turn replaced by Daviot House. The settlement developed in association with its mill and in the 1890s Daviot Station (¾ mile / 1.2 km east of the present settlement) was temporarily the northern terminus of the Highland Railway's main line from Aviemore to Inverness. The station closed in 1965. A quarry nearby provided material for the building of the A9 Trunk Road.

Novelist Alistair MacLean (1922-87) was brought up in the Manse at Daviot, his father having served as the parish minister.
