A former fishing village on the North Sea coast of Aberdeenshire, Muchalls occupies a clifftop location 4 miles (6 km) north of Stonehaven. To the west of the village stands Muchalls Castle, a former stronghold of the Burnett family, and nearby is the Episcopal Church of St Ternan's built in 1831 to replace earlier churches dating back to 1624.
