A location in the Howe of the Mearns, Aberdeenshire, Fordoun lies to the west of the A 94 road from Dundee to Aberdeen, 3 miles (5 km) north of Laurencekirk. Fordoun or Fothirdun lies in a parish of the same name, its kirkton being the village of Auchenblae. It is associated with the 14th-century chronicler, John of Fordun.
