A location in the Badenoch district of SE Highland Council Area, Ruthven is located a half-mile (1 km) south of Kingussie, on the opposite side of both the River Spey and the A9 bypass. The now-ruined Ruthven Barracks was built on a motte in 1724 and remains a notable landmark.
