Kingseat

Aberdeenshire

A rural location in E Aberdeenshire, Kingseat lies a mile (1.5 km) east of Newmachar. The Aberdeen District Asylum opened here in 1904 and comprised a set of buildings scattered over a sizeable site. It later became Kingseat Mental Hospital, run by Grampian Health Board. It closed in 1999 and the site has subsequently been redeveloped for housing, but with some of the original hospital buildings retained and converted.
