A rocky outcrop topped by an ancient hill-fort in Mid Argyll, Dunadd lies in the valley of the River Add, a mile (1.5 km) north of Kilmichael Glassary and 4 miles (6.5 km) east of Crinan. The rock stands 55m (180 feet) in height and the fort, which is defended by four walls, was created in the first millennium AD. On a rock at its summit are the carved figure of a boar, the outline of a footprint, a hollowed-out basin and several lines of ogam script. The basin and footprint have been interpreted as part of the royal ritual associated with the crowning of the kings of Dalriada.
