King Alexander I

c.1077 - 1124

Scottish monarch. Born in Dunfermline, the son of Malcolm Canmore (c.1031-93) and his Queen, Saint Margaret (1045-93). Alexander succeeded his brother Edgar to the throne in 1107. He was a strong King, and a supporter of the Church, establishing the Abbey on Inchcolm Island in the Forth Estuary, and a priory at Scone.

He died in Stirling and is buried at Dunfermline Abbey. Having no children, he was succeeded by his brother King David I (c.1080 - 1153).
