(Mizero) Ncuti Gatwa


1992 -

Actor. Born in Rwanda, the son of a journalist, his family escaped from the Rwandan genocide in 1994 and settled in Scotland. Living in Edinburgh and then Dunfermline, Gatwa was educated at Boroughmuir High School and Dunfermline High School before training as an actor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. He then joined the Dundee Repertory Theatre acting in several productions also had a minor role in Neil Forsyth's sitcom Bob Servant (2014), alongside Brian Cox (b. 1946), which was set and filmed in Dundee. He gained international recognition after appearing in the Netflix television series Sex Education (2019-23), gaining several BAFTA award nominations and the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor in Television in 2020. He appeared as one of the Ken's in the film Barbie (2023) and was also cast as Dr Who in the long-running BBC television series. Gatwa was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2022.
