The Mounth

An alternative name for the Grampian Mountains derived from the Gaelic 'Monadh' meaning 'mountain'. It also came to signify a pass over the Grampians such as the Cairn o' Mount (Mounth), Capel Mounth, Elsick Mounth, Cowie Mounth, Builg Mounth and Stock Mounth. The Mounth Plateau lies in the centre of the Grampians around the White Mounth (1068m / 3503 feet) and Lochnagar (1155m / 3789 feet).
