West Kilbride War Memorial

Located to the southwest of the village centre, the West Kilbride War Memorial takes the form of a traditional cross, but has been augmented by four black granite slabs in 2001. The original memorial, which honours the dead from both the First and Second World Wars, did not include the names of the fallen, but after a one-man campaign and considerable research by local resident Mr William McSkimming, the new memorial has these names etched in gold. The West Kilbride War Memorial Trust was established and the new memorial erected alongside the old with the support of the Co-operative Wholesale Society and North Ayrshire Council. It was unveiled on Sunday 3rd June, 2001, following a march through the village which was led by the Royal Marines Band.
