Loch Tangasdale


(Loch Tangasdail, Loch Tangusdale, Loch St Clair, Loch Mor)

A small loch which represents the largest body of fresh water on Barra in the Outer Hebrides, Loch Tangasdale (or Loch Tangusdale, Gael: Loch Tangasdail) lies near the west coast of the island, a quarter-mile (0.4 km) southwest of Tangusdale and 1½ miles (2.5 km) northwest of Castlebay. This loch is recorded as Loch Mor on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1880 and as Loch St. Clair on the county series map of 1931.
