The deserted beach of Sunnyside Bay lies 1¼ miles (2 km) west of Sandend on Aberdeenshire's northern coast. Overlooked by Findlater Castle, the bay has a cave at its western edge which was home to a French hermit known as "Charlie" before World War II.
