Woodlands

A residential district within the West End of Glasgow, Woodlands occupies the lower slopes of Woodlands Hill, to the south of Great Western Road, northeast of Park Circus and Kelvingrove Park, and the northwest of St. George's Cross. While noted for its sylvan character, the district takes its name from the former home of James McNayr (1757 - 1808) the first editor of the Glasgow Herald newspaper. Today, Woodlands is popular with students at the University of Glasgow, which has its main campus at Gilmorehill, a half-mile (0.8 km to the west. The area is also home to the Arlington Baths Club and the Annan Fine Art Gallery. Woodside lies on the opposite side of Great Western Road.
