Maryfield

A district of N Dundee, bounded to the north by the Kingsway (A90 Trunk Road) and Stobswell in the south, Maryfield is located 1¼ miles (2 km) north northeast of the city centre. Maryfield Hospital was built as the Dundee Poor Hospital in 1893 house but closed in 1976. This lay immediately to the north of the Dundee Poorhouse (or East Poorhouse), which opened in 1856. Keiller's opened a marmalade and sweet factory in Mains Loan in 1930 and the company moved the remainder of its operations from Albert Square to this site in the 1970s. This factory closed in the early 1990s but in-part re-opened as Shaw's Dundee Sweet Factory, a visitor centre styled on 1950s sweet-making workshop which itself closed in 2002.
