Carluke Railway Station (Gael: Cathair MoLuaig) is situated on the West Coast Main Line, although no mainline trains stop here. Rather it provides a commuter service on the Argyle Line network and also trains stop here on the Glasgow Central to Edinburgh route via Carstairs. The station is located a quarter-mile (0.5 km) west of Carluke and 1½ miles (2.5 km) north of Braidwood in South Lanarkshire. It was originally opened on the Wishaw and Coltness Railway in 1842, but was taken over by the Caledonian Railway in 1848 which was building a line south to Carlisle.
Today, the station is operated by ScotRail and is staffed part-time. It comprises two platforms linked by a traditional overbridge. It was used by 428,140 passengers per annum (2016-17), which represents a steady increase in numbers over preceding years. Carluke Railway Station is preceded by Carstairs, 7½ miles (12 km) to the east southeast, and followed by Wishaw Railway Station, 4½ miles (7 km) to the northwest.
