Ravenspark

A northern district of Irvine in North Ayrshire, Ravenspark became the site of the Cunninghame Combination Poorhouse in 1857-8, which became Cunninghame Home and Hospital in the 1930s and was renamed Ravenspark Hospital in 1958. This closed in 1996 and was redeveloped as housing in 2012, although building was temporarily suspended when the graveyard of the former poorhouse and asylum was uncovered. Ravenspark Golf Course was created opposite in 1907, and prefab house were built nearby to help address the post-Second World War housing shortage in the town. Ravenspark Academy was built on the site of these prefabs in 1969 and this school later merged with Irvine Royal Academy, which now occupies the premises.
