Garnock Floods Wildlife Reserve

Garnock Floods Wildlife Reserve is located on the left bank of the River Garnock in North Ayrshire, opposite the site of the former Eglinton Iron Works, a mile (1.5 km) south of Kilwinning. The reserve comprises low-lying floodplain pasture with shallow pools and areas of marshland which attracts waterfowl and, in autumn and winter, wading birds. It was established by Irvine Development Corporation, but ownership passed to the Scottish Wildlife Trust when the IDC was wound up in 1996. The reserve is grazed by cattle to keep the ground suitable for the wading birds that feed here. The birds can be observed from a small hide.
