Forth Bridge Memorial

Located outside the Rail Bridge Cafe-Bistro on Newhalls Road in South Queensferry, this is a monument to those thousands of men and boys who worked on and those who died constructing the Forth Bridge, which was constructed between 1883 and 1890. This monument comprises a model of a section of the bridge, mounted on a sandstone pedestal that imitates one of the bridge's support piers. The monument was the work of local artist Hamish Gilchrist, with the stonework by students of Telford College in Edinburgh. It was unveiled by First Minister Alex Salmond on 3rd July 2007. Another monument with a similar purpose, the Briggers Memorial (South) is located just 50m / 150 feet to the northeast.
