Parish of Ayr

Ayr is a coastal parish, which lies in South Ayrshire Council Area, some 6 miles (10 km) south of Troon and 8 miles (13 km) northeast of Maybole in South Ayrshire.

It is located in the old county of Ayrshire, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.

The parish has an area of 51.1 sq. km (19.7 sq. miles) and includes the settlement of Ayr. Ayr has 5 neighbouring parishes; namely Coylton, Dalrymple, Maybole, Monkton & Prestwick and Tarbolton. The boundaries of this parish were modified among significant changes recommended by the Boundary Commissioners after the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889 and again by the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1894.
