Academic and ecclesiastical historian. Grandson of Protestant reformer John Row (c.1525-80) and son of the Minister of Carnock, another John Row (1568 - 1646), who began a History of the Kirk which was continued by this Row.
Row was Rector of Perth Grammar School but, in 1651, was appointed Principal of King's College, Aberdeen, by General George Monk (1608-70) on the authority of Oliver Cromwell (1599 - 1654). Row added the Cromwell Tower to provide additional student accommodation for the College. He also wrote Hebraeae Linguas Institutiones, the first work in Hebrew to be printed in Scotland.
His son, William, was Minister of Ceres, and added to the History of the Kirk, which was eventually published by the Wodrow Society in Edinburgh in 1842.
