Golfer. Cannon spent his life in Irvine (North Ayrshire), where he was a long-standing member of Irvine Golf Club, with its course at Bogside next to the settlement of Bartonholm, where he was born and raised. He worked as a stock controller at the ICI plant at Ardeer, but it was in golf he made his mark. In 1969 at Troon, he became the oldest man to win the Scottish Amateur Golf Championship. He went on to win the Scottish Seniors title in 1978, 1980 and 1982, together with a number of Ayrshire Championships.
Having spent the last year of his life in a care home in Kilwinning, he died in Crosshouse Hospital. His funeral was held at the Irvine Old Parish Church and he lies buried at Kilmaurs Cemetery.
