Public Housing, Eastfield

A village on a south-facing slope in North Lanarkshire, Eastfield lies directly west of Harthill and south of the M8 motorway. It grew in association with the coal industry in the later 19th C., gaining a school and a church, again between the wars and in later 20th C. The housing styles include four-flat blocks with high-pitched roofs, semi-detached bungalows and two-storey terraces. Most was built as social housing for rent, but many of the properties have been sold under right-to-buy legislation.
