A small village in Easter Ross, Nigg lies on the east side of Nigg Bay, 6 miles (10 km) northeast of Invergordon. An oil rig platform yard opened in the 1970s to the south on Nigg Bay and has continued to promote growth in the area. To the south Nigg Ferry has made a connection to Cromarty on the Black Isle for at least eight centuries. Nearby Pitcalzean House was for a time the home of author Eric Linklater (1899 - 1974).
