Dornie

Highland

A former fishing village in the Kintail district of Wester Ross, Highland Council Area, Dornie lies on the east side of the entrance to Loch Long, 8 miles (13 km) east of Kyle of Lochalsh. Prior to the building of a bridge in the 1930s, a ferry linked Dornie with Ardelve. Nearby is the restored Macrae stronghold of Eilean Donan Castle. An ancient centre of Highland Catholicism, the Duchess of Leeds founded a convent and church here in the 19th century. The village also benefits from a hotel and post office, and there was once a school.
