A settlement in Falkirk Council area, Carron lies to the north of the River Carron and west of Carronshore, with which it forms a conurbation including Stenhousemuir and Larbert. Carron was the site of Scotland's first large scale iron foundry which was established in 1760 by the Cadell family in partnership with the English industrialists Samuel Garbett and Dr. John Roebuck. The ironworks utilised the nearby seam of coal and ironstone at Bo'ness.
