A settlement on the River Stinchar in South Ayrshire, Knockdolian is located 3 miles (5 km) northeast of Ballantrae. A mansion dating from 1842, by David Rhind (1808-83), lies next to a ruined 16th century tower house. Knockdolian Barns is a farm, situated to the north, while the hill of Knockdolian rises steeply to 265m / 869 feet to the southwest.
