Dorlin

(Diorlinn)
Highland

A scattered estate village of the W Highlands, Dorlin (Gael: Diorlinn) lies 2½ miles (4 km) north northwest of Acharacle, overlooking Tioram Castle and the South Channel at the mouth of Loch Moidart. Most of the houses were constructed in the mid 19th C. by the proprietor of the Loch Shiel Estate. During World War II, a Combined Operations Training Centre (HMS Dorlin) was based in Dorlin House, which was demolished in the 1960s.
