A location in the Ettrick Forest district of the Scottish Borders, Altrieve lies 5 miles (8 km) north of Ettrick and 9 miles (15 km) south of Innerleithen. The location comprises a small hill-farm, which was the last home of James Hogg, the 'Ettrick Shepherd' (1770 - 1835). The farm-house lies in a small valley between two streams; the Altrieve Burn and Altrieve Lake. Altrieve Rig rises to 459m (1505 feet) to the northwest.
