Auld Hill

A steep hill on the North Ayrshire coast, Auld Hill rises to 73m (241 feet) behind Farland Head, immediately to the northeast of Portencross and 2 miles (3 km) west northwest of West Kilbride. On its summit are the remains of a 13th or 14th century hall-house, which once had a garderobe tower at its NW corner. Known as Arnele or Arneil Castle, several charters were signed here by Robert II (1316-90) and Robert III (1337 - 1406).
