Ardmeanach

A peninsula and physiographic district in W Mull in the Inner Hebrides, Ardmeanach lies between Loch Scridain and Loch na Keal, 13 miles (21 km) southwest of Salen. The distinctive stepped topography is due to the underlying geology which comprises a horizontal succession of Tertiary lava flows. Much of the peninsula represents a Site of Special Scientific Interest, containing a National Scenic Area and Environmentally Sensitive Area. The National Trust for Scotland has owned land to the north of Burg at the head of the peninsula since 1932, including MacCulloch's Fossil Tree.
