Knockside Hills

A closely clustered group of summits on a small area of upland plateau lying to the east of the Rye Water in North Ayrshire, the Knockside Hills reach 446m (1463 feet) a mile (1.4 km) north of Muirhead Reservoir and 3 miles (5 km) east of Largs. Irish law lies a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the north. They lie within the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park. On the 27th October 1941, a Bristol Beaufort aircraft crashed while on a training mission. Two of the crew, Flight Sergeants Jannett and Jack, were killed, while two others, Flight Sergeants Walters and Bower, survived. Little remains of the wreck.
