Holytown Railway Station

(Baile a' Chuilinn)

Holytown Railway Station (known as Baile a' Chuilinn in Gaelic) is located in New Stevenston, a half-mile (1 km) south of Holytown in North Lanarkshire. It serves the Shotts Line, with regular trains to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Originally called Carfin, this station opened in 1880 on the former Wishaw and Coltness Railway which became part of the Caledonian Railway Company's connection from Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley. Now operated by ScotRail, Holytown Railway Station is unstaffed, comprises two platforms connected by an overbridge and was used by 137,334 passengers in 2016-17. It is preceded by Carfin Railway Station, a mile (1.5 km) to the east southeast, and followed by Bellshill, 2¼ miles (3.5 km) to the west.
