Gowrie Burn

(Invergowrie Burn)

A stream which forms at the junction of the Fowlis Burn and Lochee Burn at Greystane in Dundee City, the Gowrie Burn (often, although incorrectly, the Invergowrie Burn). It then crosses into Perth & Kinross to flow down the eastern edge of Invergowrie and fall into Invergowrie Bay, having completed a course of barely a mile (1.6 km). Its final stretch forms the boundary between Perth & Kinross and Dundee City Council Areas. Bullionfield Paper Mill was established alongside the burn in 1850 (on the site of a former bleachfield) and operated until 1965. Its buildings remain. There was a flour mill further downstream, and evidence of its buildings and mill-dam can also still be seen.
