Does anyone have any info on William Thompson, born about 1698 in Scotland and married to Sarah Evans? He is of the clan MacTavish where there were many Thompson's in the Roxburghshire and Dumfriesshire areas. They migrated to County Down, Ireland before 1722 where a son William was born there as well as couple of other children. They subsequently immigrated to the U.S. where they settled in Tazewell, Va. area and died there. I am looking for birth places and marriage places and dates for William Thompson and Sarah Evans. Thank you.

In the churchyard cemetery at the north end of Inverkeilor is the headstone of my g.g.ggrandparents, John and Anne (nee Barrie) Lyall, and other family members. John and Anne's son, also John Lyall emigrated to Tasmania (then Van Diemen's Land) alone, in 1833, his wife and their children, John, Julia, William, Andrew and Margaret joining him in 1836. Their two elder sons, Alexander and James were 'at sea' in the merchant navy. The family had originally been farmers near Inverkeilor prior to moving to Foveran. Margaret, later to become Mrs. Mickle, wrote her memoirs in 1892, a copy of which I can email to your site, or other interested parties. She also wrote some other documents.

I was stationed at Machrihanish in 1968 with the U.S. Navy and had the opportunity to visit Davaar Island. I was just thinking about it recently and did a search on the internet and found this site. I was hoping to find a picture of the Crucifixion. It would be great if someone could add a picture of it to this site. I also remember the crash of an RAF Shackleton on the Mull of Kintyre. It was a very terrible thing. I must add, I really enjoyed my tour of duty and the wonderful people of Campbelltown. Some day I hope to make it back there.

Am enjoying your site. Was interested in the info on Auchtergaven or Bankfoot. I have just found 4 pages of typewritten info "Waterloo, near Bankfoot" by Rev. David Graham, Redgorton...no date in my late father's Burns poetry book. It talks about the naming of the village and a relative of mine by the name of Bryce Scott Wilson, a piper in the 79th Highlanders at the Battle of Waterloo. Bryce Scott Wilson was born in Inverkeithing in 1801 and died in Perth in 1889. It also includes some of the extract of his obituary. He was married to a Catherine Robertson and they had 7 children that I know of. If anyone knows anything of this person I would love to hear. I am working on our family tree and have traveled to Scotland many time. Thank you.

Hi folks,

Am a masters student at the University of Dundee doing some research into the Waldie - Griffith family of Hendersyde Park, near Kelso. The Waldie - Griffiths had holdings in coal mining in Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic), believe it or not - however I am just posting on here in the hope that any relatives of them etc. that might still be around may read. Anyone with any info let me know.

Also notice the link for Hendersyde Park on the Kelso page is empty, I can contribute some info about it if you guys like?

Thanks,
Kevin

I wonder if anyone can help me please? I am trying to locate Eileen Campbell, (formally Murray)or any relative of hers. She was known by this name in or around 1970 and use to live at 47 New Hunterfield, Gorebridge, Midlothian. If anyone can in any way, however insignificant you think it may be please email me. She was in close contact with my family at this time however we have lost contact and all efforts to find and reunite have been fruitless.

My name is Alyson Davidson (maiden name). I want to locate an old school friend. Her name was Lynne Shaw and we attended Kings Park SS School, Croftfoot, Glasgow in the 60s. Her sister was Hilary. We kept in touch after school, but lost touch after I came to Canada. Lynne married Ian Broadfoot, moved to Renfrew then Arbroath and had two children. Lynne and Ian divorced and she has remarried and lives in England. If anyone has any information as to Lynne's whereabouts I would be thrilled. I'm planning another trip back to Scotland in the near future and would love to be able to see her. Thanks in advance.

While viewing this site the name LATHERON was right there in front of me. I think my prayers are answered. I'm searching for the family of Bernard McGurn,or variations of the McGurn speling, who was born Nov. 6 1835. The records I found here in the USA mention he was born in SATHAEN/LATHERN and I'm assuming that it was spelt wrong. I could not find that word in any dictionary. Bernard's parents were Martin McGurn & Mary McDonald. Bernard married Feb. 15,1863 to Catherine Fearon from Co. Down. Where they wed I do not know. Bernard died Aug. 17, 1910 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA

I find your site to be very interesting. I am on a genealogical search for Dunlops. I can trace my ancestors back to 1721 in Bolton, Haddingtonshire, but have been unable to discover the link to Dunlop, Ayreshire. Along the way I have looked up a number of settlements listed in your gazetteer but others are not there, Brookside, Garvald Parish, East Lothian, for example. Do you have any plans for an alphabetical data base listing all settlements/towns/citiesby parish county (old & New) - i.e. East Lothian being an amalgum of a number of shires. My 1935 Dunlop book refers to both Haddingtonshire & East Lothian. If such a data base could be searched by town, parish or shire, that would be most useful. Keep up the god work.

Can anyone give me advice about midges in the Portsonachan area.
Are they active in the spring? Is March or April a good time to avoid them?

i am a new member, who has just now stumbled across this site in an effort to trace my father's family through his mother's maiden name, CHALMERS. the only info i have is that my grandmother was the youngest of 13 children born to thomas and elizabeth chalmers of edinburgh. i do not know if my great grandfather is the Dr. Thomas Chalmers, founder of the Free Church of Scotland. if there are any long lost cousins still living in scotland, perhaps they can help me connect some dots.
my grandmother, Violet Chalmers, married George Gordon. they lived in Detroit, Michigan, USA. George died in the 1930s, and Violet in the 1940s. She died in Detroit. they were the parents of Hazel, violet, and my father, Charles Melvin Gordon all of whom died in Detroit.
